Sylvia Wright Funding
Since 1982,the Trust has supported the work of Sylvia, a nurse from Leeds. She works in Tamil Nadu and runs a School for 200 deaf children, a day Centre for 100 disabled children and a college for 120 nursing students. The Nursing College is now largely self-funding, but the annual running costs for the School are nearly £140,000 and for the Day Centre £60,000. This is tremendous value - who knows how many millions these services would cost in the UK? One of our pounds buys a great deal in India. For example £2 per day feeds, clothes, houses and educates a deaf child.
Currently, the Trust covers most of the running costs with the balance made up from local donations and government grants. In addition, the Trust has funded all of the building and equipment costs of the School and the College and a substantial proportion of the new Day Care Centre, which also received support from the Ray of Hope project in America. Equipment repair and replacement costs are also covered by the Trust as they fall due.
The Trust has almost no expenses and is able to send 97pence out of every pound received.
Almost all of our income comes from just 600 loyal supporters; more are always needed and welcome

- Making a donation to the Bursary Fund which supports student nurses
- Making a standing order payable to the Trust
- Making a one-off gift.
- Making the Sylvia Wright Trust your company's Charity of the Year
- We do reclaim Gift Aid whenever we can.
- We have had excellent support over the years from wedding, anniversary, funeral and retirement collections and from sponsored events and concerts. Many churches, schools and community groups have also helped.
